Best of Healthy Eats

Midlanders love to eat out. But in a town where food is entertainment, it can be difficult to maintain a balanced diet. Reporter-Telegram features editor Megan Lea Buck and online editor John Boyd spent the past several weeks searching out healthy options in Midland's restuarants.

Every restaurant, well, almost every restaurant, has something on the menu to cater to diners watching their waistlines. To keep our list manageable, we avoided chain restaurants and asked our Facebook friends for suggestions. We certainly don't claim to be expert food critics, but we are — just like many of you — Midlanders who enjoy a good meal prepared by someone else. Restaurants were judged on quality of food, service, atmosphere and overall experience.

Strawberry Fields

As far as we know, Strawberry Fields is the only restaurant in town with a solely organic menu and we think other restaurants might have something to learn from the cafe inside Natural Foods Market. Consumers know organic foods often cost more, but some consumers — enough to keep this place packed every day during the lunch hour — are willing to pay a little extra for a meal made with organic produce and hormone and antibiotic-free meat.
