Group wants to make music permanent part of Polson's Salish Point

POLSON - Right now you have to use your imagination to picture what a group of Polson folks have in mind.

It helps if you picture it from the top of Salish Point, however.

The new park off downtown Polson is where the newly formed nonprofit organization, Festivals on the Flathead, hopes to build a permanent amphitheater - or maybe even tow one in to anchor on the water - for concert events and an annual summer music festival.

But first things first.

They'll start raising money with a concert at Salish Point on Friday, July 1, headlined by the former lead singer for Big Brother and the Holding Company, Lisa Mills.

For "A Night of Blues," they'll use a portable stage from Anderson Radio Broadcasting being modified for the event. Same with a night of country music they're planning for August.

Five years down the road, though, they want either a permanent amphitheater in the park, or perhaps one on a barge just off the beach, and envision a music extravaganza similar to the Festival at Sandpoint, the 28-year-old Idaho event that draws thousands over its eight-day run, and artists galore.
