Always looking to one-up himself, Leon Ekery might be in major trouble finding something to top this year's Easter dinner.
Using a 30-foot, custom-made grill, a 31-foot one-piece stainless steel skewer and more than 40 pounds of lamb, Ekery's family - and more than 100 family members and friends - teamed up to skewer 28 feet, 7 inches of lamb to unofficially break the Guinness World Record for the longest skewer of kebab.
"Two years ago, I had the idea but we couldn't get the paperwork from Guinness on time," Leon Ekery said. "Back in the fall, I told my son this is the year we're going to do it. Within two weeks, we had everything we needed from Guinness."
The previous record was set by Esat Murat Aksu and his 9-year-old son, Osman Selim Aksu. They grilled a kebab 18 feet, 6 inches at the 2010 Turkish Food Festival in Washington, D.C.
"I am sure they had great fun doing it as we did last October," Esat Murat Aksu said through an e-mail interview.
