"The Chow Foods chain is awesome for kids," say parents high-five-ing it for the comfort-food kitchens at the 5 Spot (Queen Anne), Endolyne Joe's (West Seattle) and the Hi-Life (Ballard) where "they can design their own cookies for dessert." Circa Neighborhood Grill and Alehouse impresses one mom who's willing to drive her brood from Shoreline to West Seattle and sent me her 4-year-old's crayon'd kids menu to prove it. "On one income, we can't afford to experiment with trendy places and an attitude," she wrote (in pencil). "It's a trek, but it's worth every bite."

Since owner Alcena Plum bought Louisa's Cafe & Bakery on Eastlake, family comes first. Plum recently instituted a Wednesday Family Night, turning the cafe into a kiddie-carnival of "AWESOME" (with half-off the kids menu). At breakfast, lunch or dinner, expect "sophisticated adult food beside plenty for the PB&J palate." And if your kids lose it on-premise, notes one kindly parent, "Rogers Playfield across the street offers a parental bailout option.

Several Indian cuisines renowned to be spicy, but now very popular in the US can be prepared at home with ease. Myself, being an indoor grill connoisseur, will now give out the recipe of one of the most popular Indian/Asian chicken dish, perfect for your favorite indoor grill.

I am referring to Chicken Tikka, which is not only famous in India but also other South Asian countries and the Middle East. Tikka means pieces or chunks (boneless). Chicken tikka is a simple to cook dish which is marinated in some special spices and then normally grilled on skewers in an open fire grill. Well, we all do not have a fire grill at home so we will improvise in the indoor grill, without sacrificing the taste and aroma....

8 Boneless, skinless chicken thighs

Combine everything but the chicken in a small bowl. Whisk to dissolve brown sugar. Place marinade and chicken in a zip-lock bag. Pop that bag in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours, or longer if you have it (even overnight)

Preheat a grill (or an indoor grill pan or broiler). Spray cooking surface with cooking spray and place chicken on it to cook. Cook for 5-10 minutes on each side depending on the thickness.  Optional:  garnish with sliced green onions

*Tip:  When I make this I usually make 1 1/2 times the marinade.  I reserve some of the marinade before adding the chicken and then use it in the last few minutes of grilling, or just brush it on after for extra flavor.
